Rehabilitation of contaminated sites and remediation technologies

The Consorzio Venezia Ricerche (CVR) research centre boasts ten years’ experience in the management of contaminated sites. It has developed advanced remediation projects based on procedures that comply with the most stringent environmental regulations.

CVR’s mission in this field concerns the development and implementation of innovative remediation technologies resulting from its research activities and testing on real case studies. The remediation technologies it devises are designed to meet requalification targets and to maximise the environmental and economical sustainability of remediation operations. These activities lead to the development of patented technologies for the reclamation of contaminated sediment, soil and groundwater (e.g. innovative vetrifications).

In particular, CVR’s expertise covers the whole contaminated site rehabilitation process, encompassing:

  • Environmental characterisation (preliminary environmental analysis and characterisation plans)
  • Development and application of ecological and human health risk assessment
  • Evaluation end selection of the best remediation technologies according to site-specific conditions
  • Remediation intervention design for contaminated groundwater, surface water and soil
  • In operam and post operam monitoring design

CVR works in complex contexts on the basis of the experience gained during the realization of diversified projects at the “Site of National Interest” of Porto Marghera and in the delicate context of Venice’s lagoon.
