Enviromental Sciences

The CVR’s environmental research area includes the following activities:

  • development and application of human health and ecological risk assessment methodologies for addressing various environmental problems (site contamination, nanoparticles, climate change) supported by the development of exposure models
  • rehabilitation of contaminated sites, from environmental characterisation to the remediation and post operam monitoring program
  • implementation of the developed methodologies in decision support systems, by integrating both environmental and socio-economic aspects using Multi-Criteria Decision Analysis methods
  • exploration of new fields of research such as energy and the urban water cycle

The Consortium has an ongoing partnership with the Ca’ Foscari University of Venice (e.g. analytical chemistry laboratories), Consiglio Nazionale delle Ricerche (the Italian National Research Council, CNR) and several other partners (in particular for the development of environmental technologies). It has also established a strong international network of research institutes and environmental protection agencies, including Lancaster University (UK), the Chinese MEP (Ministry of Environmental Protection), CRAES (Chinese Research Academy of Environment Science), the EC Joint Research Centre located in Ispra (VA) and the Helmholtz Centre for Environmental Research – UFZ in Leipzig (D).

In addition, CVR participates in international events (workshops and conferences) related to environmental topics of interest and organises scientific seminars and training courses on the methodological procedures and software products it has developed.
