The Consortium has years of
experience in the development and application of risk and impact assessment
procedures using the following methods:
Human Health Risk Assessment
- Application
of the site-specific Human Health Risk
Assessment procedure for contaminated sites (soil, freshwater and
groundwater) in compliance with Italian guidelines (APAT, 2008);
- Development
and application of Regional Risk
Assessment procedures for the prioritisation of contaminated sites
(vulnerability and impact assessment);
- Integration
of impact assessment with socio-economic analysis in order to support the selection of the best remediation
technologies for the site in question.
Ecological Risk Assessment
- Development
and application of site-specific
Ecological Risk Assessment procedures for contaminated sites (terrestrial
and aquatic ecosystems) pursuant to applicable European Directives
- Development
and application of Ecological Risk
Assessment procedures for nanoparticles
- Integration
of impact assessment with socio-economic analysis in order to prioritise hot
spots on river basin scale
Environmental modelling
- Development,
adaptation and application of bioaccumulation
models for both terrestrial and aquatic ecosystems
- Development
and application of hydro-geological models and pollutant fate and transport
models
- Application of
geostatistical methodologies to analyse the 2- and 3-D spatial distribution of
contaminants
Environmental assessment and management tools
- Application
of Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) methodology to assess the overall potential
environmental impacts of a product system through its entire life cycle (i.e.
from cradle to grave)
- Environmental
assessment of projects, plans and programmes
Advisory services for businesses, helping them to effectively manage and
comply with current and future environmental legislation
- REACH (Registration, Evaluation and Authorisation
of Chemicals), the new legislation concerning the production, use and
management of chemicals in Europe. Support on regulatory interpretation, the pre-registration phase, supply chain communication, third party auditing, business impact
assessment and on Substance Information Exchange Forum (SIEF) management.
Most of the aforementioned methodologies
were developed by the Consortium and validated through application to various
case studies within national and international research projects.
